Sounds a Bit Gay, to be honest

·349 words·2 mins

I wrote a poem.

it was inspired by a bloke I knew decades ago who refused to have almost anything to do with his daughter as “I’m not doing that, it seems a bit gay to be honest” was his go to answer with regards to anything family or time together. Also elements from my own Father, my role model on how NOT to be a worthwhile father, man and all round human being.

Sounds a bit gay, to be honest.

Sounds a bit gay to be honest, he said none of this gender-neutral shit, My kid will know what it is,

Sounds a bit gay to be honest, he said having to hold the kid, I did my bit! Sod this, I’m off for a bit.

Sounds a bit gay to be honest, he said nappies and shit, I didn’t sign up for this can’t do it, show me again, it just doesn’t make sense you can just do it, you are better at this!

Sounds a bit gay to be honest, he said You know, wearing a tiara and glitter, Wouldn’t catch me he said, I’m a real man he growled what if the doorbell rang!

Sounds a big gay to be honest, he said playing with dolls, teddies and things that sparkle I’m not playing with that, daddy just doesn’t want to dad is a man, go ask your mum

Sounds a bit gay to be honest, he said what do you mean it’s for your daughter’s fun she can do that stuff with her mum I’m here he said, isn’t that enough?

Sounds a bit gay to be honest, he said make memories and time together, she said, Na, footballs on, she can watch that, if she keeps shtoom or go sit with her mum, wish I had a son.

Sounds a bit gay to be honest, he said, but now she’s all grown up, I missed out on the fun, because I wanted to be a man, Not a dad.
